James May
Hugely popular presenter of Top Gear
James Daniel May is one of the presenters of BBC2's hugely successful Top Gear now in its tenth series. Last year James presented James May's 20th Century also for BBC2. James has also co-presented 2 series of Oz & James's Big Wine Adventure travelling through France and California and trying to learn all things wine and is currently away filming the 3rd series.
Earlier in 2008 James filmed James May's Big Ideas which is due to be broadcast on BBC2 later on that year.
Earlier in 2009 the BBC showed ‘James May at the Edge of Space’ where James took a rare and privileged flight 70,000 feet above Earth in a U2 spy plane.
Aside from being a proper grown-up car journalist, James is also an accomplished pianist and a qualified pilot. When he joined the team in 2003, he brought a thoughtful new element to the show, along with his sensitive hair and an exciting range of brightly coloured jumpers. James has since earned himself the somewhat unfair nickname 'Captain Slow'. This is basically because, unlike Jeremy and Richard, he doesn't drive everywhere like his trousers are full of wasps.
James has a very bipolar taste in cars. He loves either very large enormously luxurious land-yachts, or cheap and tiny superminis. This is evidenced by his own driveway, which contains both a Rolls-Royce and a Fiat Panda. In fairness, he does also own a Porsche Boxster. But thanks to the specially-requested fitment of brown roof, brown seats and brown steering wheel, driving it is a bit like sitting in a giant Hushpuppy loafer. This is strangely fitting.
He went to Oakwood Comprehensive School and graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Music.
He is a sought after motoring journalist writing for Top Gear Magazine and The Daily Telegraph and has contributed over the years to Car Magazine, The Scotsman, Country Life and various technology and travel titles. In 2000 he won the Guild of Motoring Writers Journalist of the Year award.
James has a wealth of corporate experience working with many blue chip companies, his relaxed style coupled with his sense of humour, sharp dry wit and exuberant personality make him an ideal choice. Past clients have included the Royal Bank of Scotland, JP Morgan, Sun Chemicals, The Carphone Warehouse, Rabobank International & Rolls Royce PLC to mention just a few.
